James Rosenquist, Rails [Detail] ed. III/XX, 1975-76
James Rosenquist, Rails [Detail] ed. III/XX, 1975-76, Lithograph and silkscreen print on Arches paper, 37" x 74"

The general collection consists of a broad array of art objects from ancient cultural artifacts to contemporary works of art.  Giving context to ancient Mayan and Incan cultures of Central and South America is a suite of Pre-Columbian objects dating from 200-500 AD.  There is a substantial grouping of works on paper including prints, photographs and drawings.  Perhaps most notable is the print collection with a strong representation of American printmakers from the 1960’s and 70’s.  Artists represented in the collection include Adolph Gottlieb (1903-1974), Ellsworth Kelly (b.1923), Robert Motherwell (1915-1991), James Rosenquist (b.1933) and Robert Rauschenberg (b.1925).  The collection of photographs includes important works by Berenice Abbott (1898-1991), John Coplans (1920-2003), William Eggleston (b.1939), Eduardo Del Valle and Mirta Gomez.  An increasing number of artworks in the general collection emphasize the Frost Art Museum’s objectives to collect and preserve the work of Caribbean, Latin American and contemporary American artists.

The general collection continues to grow through acquisitions and donations to the Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum.
