CONSTITUTION

Preamble:

We, the members of the Information Technology Society at Florida
International University, hereby associate ourselves to stimulate interest in technology and foster enthusiasm for an understanding of advancements
of a technological society.

Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be known as the Information Technology Society at Florida International University.

Article II: Membership

Section A: The membership of this organization shall be open to all students, staff, administrators, and alumni of Florida International University who unite to promote their common interests.
Section B: The Advisor of this organization shall be a full-time faculty, administrator, or staff member of Florida International University.
Section C: The membership fees will be posted by the club representatives according to their academic status. Membership fees are paid every semester.

Article III: Officers

Section A: The officers of this organization shall be: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations Officer, Operation/Events Coordinator and Web Master.
Section B: All officers shall be undergraduate or graduate students who have paid the activity and service fee and are in good academic standing.
Section C: The length of the term of office shall extend from the beginning of the Fall Semester until the end of the Summer Semester. Each Officer can serve an unlimited number of terms.
Section D: Nominations and elections for officers shall be held in the Fall Semester.
Section E: If a vacancy occurs in the Presidency, it shall be filled by the Vice President, and all other vacancies shall be filled by organizational member vote.

Article IV: Election of Officers

Section A: Officers shall be elected by all active members by majority vote (50% + 1).
Section B: Installation of new officers shall be voted in the Fall Semester.
Section C: If only one nomination occurs in any given position, (assuming the nomination is accepted) that person will automatically win that position.
Section D: A person may run for only one (1) position of Officers during any general or special election.
Section E: Must be of at least sophomore standing to run for and hold Office.
Section F: Cannot hold Office at Biscayne Bay Information Technology Society to run or hold office in this organization (Information Technology Society at FIU University Park)
Section G: Nominees running for office must be in attendance during organizational voting. Unless otherwise excused by Faculty Advisor under reasonable circumstances.

Article V: Duties of Officers

Section A: Officers are responsible for attending meetings of Information Technology Society regularly. A vacancy shall occur if a representative misses more than three (3) consecutive regular meetings or a total of ten (10) regular meetings per academic year.
Section B: Resignation of an officer must be submitted in writing to the President of Information Technology Society two (2) weeks prior to resigning.
Section C: Officers and Faculty Advisor will meet after the scheduled meeting to establish the agenda for the next meeting.
Section D: Faculty Advisor
(a) Votes in the even of a tie.
Section E: President
(a) Preside at all meetings.
(b) Initiate projects.
Section F: Vice President
(a) Preside at all meetings in the absence of the President.
(b) Succeed to the office of President in the event a vacancy may occur.
Section G: Secretary
(a) Keep complete and accurate minutes of the meetings and records of
membership.
(b) Assist President and Vice President with any work.
Section H: Treasurer
(a) Receive and deposit all funds
(b) Keep an accurate account of all receipts and disbursements from the funds of the treasury.
(c) Make all disbursements in accordance to school policy.
Section I: Public Relations Officer
(a) Primarily responsible for promoting the events and affairs of the society.
(b) Informs the students, faculty and community of all upcoming events of the society.
Section J: Operations/Events Coordinator
(a) Responsible for creating and implementing any activities for the society.
(b) Will contact Space and Scheduling before the beginning of each semester to arrange for meeting room.
Section K: Web Master
(a) Designs, creates and updates website for the society

Article VI: Discipline

Section A: Elected officer(s) may be removed by a 2/3rd officer vote for
malfeasance, misfeasance, and/or non-feasance.
Section B: Organizational Members may be removed by a 2/3rd officer vote for misconduct.

Article VII: Meetings
Section A: Regular meetings will be held.
Section B: Special meeting will be called by the President.
Section C: All members shall receive sufficient notification of all meetings.
Section D: All meetings will be one (1) hour in duration.

Article VIII: Officer Authority

Section A: Call for special election or referendum with majority (50% + 1)
vote of organizational members in attendance at the meeting.
Section B: Establish ad-hoc committees with a simple majority vote (50% + 1) of the Information Technology Society Officers at the meeting.
Section C: Allocate activity and Service Fees that have been designated for the Information Technology Society organization and monitor the use of those funds through the Treasurer.
Section D: Elected Officers and Faculty Advisor act as an appeal board.
Section E: Election results won’t be disclosed until the next meeting and all votes will be confidential.

Article IX: Amendments

Section A: Amendments to this Constitution shall be submitted to the President and Advisor in writing for submission to the organizational members for a vote.
Section B: A majority vote (50% + 1) of organizational members shall suffice for adoption.
Section C: A copy of new amendments is to be given to the Student Activities Department no later than one week after adoption. The amendment will be placed in the club's permanent files, and posted online.

Article X: Dissolution

Section A: This organization may be dissolved after dissolution is approved by officers and a two-thirds (2/3rd) vote of its members, provided that notice of a vote on dissolution will be taken is furnished to the members at least sixty (60) days before the vote is taken.
Section B: This organization will have its officers’ current information pertaining to dissolution to the Student Activities Department prior to informing its members.
Section C: Upon dissolution, the officers shall utilize the assets of the organizationto pay all obligation and expenses of the organization, including those arising from dissolution and distribution. The balance, if any, shall insofar as possible, be distributed equitably among the contributing factors.
