PREREQUISITE:

CGS 3300 Introduction to Information Systems

ISM 4220 Business Data Communications

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

As we enter the digital world, where music, photos, movies, TV , and telecommunications, turn from analog to digital, we enjoy faster connectivity and faster download speeds. We can conduct transactions in banking, finance, stock trading, insurance, loans, mortgages, buying and selling of both goods and services, across the world, across time zones, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But we also enter the world of hackers, crackers, viruses, denial of service attacks, eavesdropping, and electronic fraud.

Many companies do not believe that they will be hacked into; "We are not important enough for anyone to bother with us" and they feel this day will never come. But we must plan for the day that a hacker does get in to our system. We must protect our assets. We do not leave our door open, we do not leave our door without a lock.

We must protect our assets. In this course we will ascertain the assets of the company and we will learn and research some of the software and hardware we need for asset protection. We will also look at some scenarios of  companies fall prey of a good hacker. We will look at the anatomy of an attack, and most important of all we will discuss setting up an IRT - an incident response team.

Once you have established that you have been hacked into, do you pull the plug or do you entice the intruder to catch him?

Welcome to the digital world ladies and gentlemen.
