Admission Procedures

Applicants to the Ph.D. & M.S. Programs must meet the following minimum program requirements

Application Deadline for Doctoral Program

December 15th

Deadline for

Masters Program

Rolling Admissions

A grade point average of 3.0 during the last two years as an upper division student and/or a total score (quantitative plus verbal) of 1,120 or higher on the General Graduate Records Exam is required for the doctoral program and 1,000 or higher for the masters program.  Foreign students whose native language is not English must take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (the TOEFL) and obtain a 580 score or better.

The GRE and grade-point average are only minimum program requirements.  All applications are reviewed by the program committee, which makes the final admissions decisions.  Because admission to the program is competitive, the requirements will normally be higher than the minimum standards stated above.  Exception are occasionally made to admit applicants who have strong credentials but do not meet all of the admissions requirements.

Applicants to programs who are not psychology majors may be accepted conditionally until they meet the category I-II requirements, listed below, early in their graduate career.

  • Category  I.  Completion of one psychology laboratory or research methodology course or demonstrated competence in research methodology.

  • Category II.  Completion of introductory inferential statistics or demonstrated competence in statistics.
