Rules
Governing Use of Library Collection
- Briefcases,
pocketbooks, backpacks, carrying cases, and umbrellas must be secured
in lockers for the duration of the researcher's visit.
- Personal
papers, reference books, laptop computers, etc. deemed necessary for
research will be permitted in designated areas, subject to
inspection.
- Cellular
phones, pagers, and all electronic devices capable of disturbing other
patrons must be turned off and stored in lockers for the duration of
the researcher's visit.
- Pens,
highlighters, and other permanent ink writing instruments are not
permitted in the collections, library, and research areas. Pencils
will be provided upon request.
- Smoking
is not allowed in any area of the building. Beverages, food, gum, and
other candies are not permitted in collections, library, and research
areas.
- All
library and special collections materials must be handled with care
and under the supervision of library staff. Researchers must not write
upon, lean on, put pressure on bindings, or hold materials in their
laps. Special handling (book cradles, white gloves) may be required
for viewing fragile items. Careless handling of materials may result
in the revocation of library visitation privileges.
- Items
are not to be marked in any way likely to damage the material. (This
would include folding corners, using post-its or paperclips.) Patrons
will be provided with acid-free paper tags upon request.
- Photographic,
photocopying, and electronic duplication services will be provided by
library staff, subject to copyright law restrictions. Library staff
reserves the right to determine if material is too fragile or
otherwise unsuitable for duplication. A schedule of services and
prices will be provided upon request.
- No
library or special collection material may be published or duplicated,
in any format, or in whole or in part, without prior written
permission from The Wolfsonian–FIU. Photocopies may only be used for
private study, research, and/or scholarship. They cannot be given to
any other individuals without prior permission of The Wolfsonian.
Procedures and applications for permission to reproduce, publish, or
photograph items can be obtained from the Wolfsonian's Registration
Department. When permission is granted, a credit line is required.
- Researchers
are encouraged to offer copies of manuscripts, articles,
dissertations, books, and other products of research to The
Wolfsonian–FIU.
