I appreciate you referring your students to Florida Atlantic University (FAU).  The transfer scholarship deadline is approaching.  Please remind your students to submit a scholarship application including an essay.  This can be done online at http://www.fau.edu/academic/admissions/transferscholarapp.html.  Please submit the necessary letter of recommendation to me via email at amilliga@fau.edu or fax it to me at 561-297-2758. Please encourage your students to complete the FAFSA online at www.fafsa.ed.gov/.  A student will be considered for a scholarship after being accepted as a degree-seeking student.  They may submit a degree-seeking application and pay the application fee online at http://www.fau.edu/academic/admissions/Undadmissn.htm.  The scholarship descriptions are listed below and can be found online at http://www.fau.edu/academic/admissions/transferlist.htm.

Transfer Student Scholarship Opportunities

Please note that scholarships are available for Spring and Fall terms only

Applicants must apply and be admitted as degree seeking students

***All scholarship application deadlines are March 1st unless otherwise noted***

All Academic Team Scholars
Limited $3,000 scholarships awarded to members of the Florida Community College All Academic Team with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Renewable for up to 5 semesters while a full-time student at FAU. Deadline for nominations is June 1st for transfers in the following fall or spring semester.

Brain Bowl
Limited awards of $1,175 per semester for students on the winning brain bowl team with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Renewable for up to 5 semesters or until graduation. Candidates for nomination must be received in FAU's Admissions Office by June 1st for transfers in the following fall or spring semester.

Community College Honors/PTK Scholarship
Limited awards of $3,200 per year for incoming junior transfer students with a minimum 3.5 GPA. Eligible students are graduates of the Honors Program or members in the Phi Theta Kappa chapter at a Florida Community College. A letter of recommendation from an Honors or PTK advisor is required.

Community College Scholars Award
Limited 2+2 Scholarships of $3,000 per year available for students at Florida Community Colleges transferring to Florida Atlantic University. Students must have a minimum 3.5 GPA and must submit a letter of recommendation from a community college advisor. This scholarship is renewable for up to 5 semesters.

Depan International Transfer Student Scholarship
Awards of $2,000 for a student transferring to FAU on a student or scholar visa, includes a nonresident tuition fee waiver after completion of at least one year of study at another institution. Eligibility criteria includes outstanding academic achievement, English proficiency, and evidence of community service or activity. Renewable up to two years while a full-time student at FAU. Eligibility criteria will include a 3.0 minimum GPA.

Depan Transfer Scholarship Indian River Community College
Awards of $2,000 renewable up to two years offered to students transferring to FAU from Indian River Community College who meet all transfer admission requirements. Eligibility criteria will include an outstanding record of academic achievement, a minimum 3.0 GPA and recognition through Honors Program participation or identification as a Community College Scholar.

M. Brenn Green Scholarship
Limited awards of $1,000 available for undergraduate transfer students majoring in one of the following areas: anthropology, criminal justice, economics, geography, health administration, political science, social psychology, social work or sociology. Eligibility criteria will include a 3.0 minimum GPA. Renewable up to two years based on academic achievement and completion in one of the areas above.

Transfer Educational Achievement Award (TEAA)
Awards of $3,000 per year available for incoming junior transfer students from a community college. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and demonstrate financial need. Students must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Limited to U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens. Renewable for up to 5 semesters or until graduation.

Additional scholarships are available through the FAU Alumni Association and through academic colleges.

Municipalities of Cuba in Exile Scholarships

 

 

Background:  The Municipalities of Cuba in Exile Scholarship comprise two (2), $2,500.00 scholarships for study at Miami Dade College.  One scholarship is titled, Santiago Blanco Scholarship, in honor of the defunct Cuban patriot and leader in the effort to reorganize the Municipalities of Cuba in Exile.  The other scholarship honors the memory of Georgelina Q. Viamonte, and is funded by her husband as a tribute to her work in support of the organization’s Library Commission.

 

Eligibility:       Meet the admissions requirements of Miami Dade College

                        Demonstrate a strong commitment to education

Declare a major in sociology, psychology, nursing, education or other field related to social welfare.

 

Application Process:  Submit an application form to Miami Dade College’s District Office of Financial Aid; include an essay of no more than 250 words addressing the ideals of democracy, the pursuit of liberty and patriotism

 

Deadline for Application:  April 20, 2007

 

Winners will be announced in time for an award ceremony to be held on May 11, 2007 at 10:30A.M.  in the James Batten Conference Center, Room 2106, at the Wolfson Campus of Miami Dade College

Call for Applications

Eligible students are invited to submit applications for the 2007 Ford Motor Company CHLI Internship Program until March 1, 2007. The application is attached and can also be found on our website at www.chli.org.

To apply, applicants must:

·         Be U.S. citizens or Legal Permanent Residents of Hispanic or Portuguese Origin.

·         Be residents of and/or attending college in the following states: California, Florida, Texas or Puerto Rico.

2007 DHS Scholarship and Fellowship Program Announcement

 

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announces program guidelines for the 2007 competition cycle of the DHS Scholarship and Fellowship Program. 

 

Complete information is available online at http://www.orau.gov/dhsed/.

 

The last competition cycle provided financial support for approximately 100 Scholars and Fellows.

 

All applicants are expected to apply using the online application.  The deadline for submitting an application is January 23, 2007, 11:59 p.m.Eastern Standard Time.

                        The activities in this lab class will not only help you understand the material of College Algebra, but will also provide you with a wonderful enrichment experience.            

            In this lab, you will:

          Familiarize yourself with the use of a graphing calculator;

          Use a graphing calculator to explore the graphs of various functions studied in the College Algebra lectures;

          Work collaboratively with classmates on small group projects or experiments that will lead to a deeper understanding of the concepts and ideas studied in the College Algebra lecture. 

            Education Majors:

                        Please note that the recommended mathematics courses are: MAC1105 + MAC1105L, MTG2204 + MTG2204L, MGF1120.

                        These courses combine for a total of the nine credits of math that will provide a good foundation for future educators.
