Tracing the route of an email
When you receive an email, it has the sender's ip address and the receivers ip address.
Now, if you had a meeting with a business associate and you receive an email stating that he/she is temporarily stuck in Chicago, you can trace the route of this email. If it originates from Chicago, then you have just verified that the reason that he/she is giving you seems credible. If however, you trace the email to Jamaica, then Houston we have a problem.
