The Program Committee invites submissions
for the fourteenth annual meeting of the Society for
Research on Identity Formation (SRIF). The conference
will be held at the George Washington University from
6:00 p.m., Thursday, March 22 to 1:00 p.m., Sunday,
March 25, 2007. Membership in SRIF is not required to
submit a presentation for consideration.
Instructions for Preparing Submissions
If you are interested in submitting a proposal, it is
important that you read this document carefully and pay
close attention to the instructions while you are
preparing your proposal(s). If you have questions,
please contact the program committee (listed below).
Improperly prepared proposals will NOT be reviewed.
Proposals should address key issues of concern to
identity researchers and theorists. SRIF is an
interdisciplinary organization and strongly encourages
submissions from all relevant fields such as psychology,
sociology, family studies, and anthropology. Preference
will be given to those submissions presenting projects
with completed data analysis, but theoretical and
pedagogical presentations are also welcome. All
methodologies appropriate to the discipline, the data
and the issue under study are acceptable (including
small sample, single subject and qualitative designs).
Submissions should summarize data already collected and
must include sufficient report of data analysis for
reviewers to evaluate it. Research proposals (i.e.,
those without completed data analyses) will be
considered for poster sessions only.
For all formats
• All submissions must be postmarked or e-mailed by
Friday, October 13, 2006.
• Submissions for papers and symposia may be accepted as
poster presentations if time/space in the program so
requires.
• Abstracts for all accepted submissions will be
included in the conference program. To facilitate
compilation of the program, abstracts must be in the
format described on page 5.
The following items apply to submissions sent via e-mail:
• Each submission must be sent as an attachment in
Microsoft Word or text format. Do not send the
proposal in the body of an e-mail message.
• Save the cover page and abstract in one document. The
file name should be yourlastname_abs.doc (or .txt
for text files). Save the proposal (titles included,
author names not included) in another document. The file
name should be yourlastname_pro.doc (or .txt for
text files). Include BOTH documents as attachments in
ONE e-mail. Do NOT send multiple e-mails for one
proposal.
• If submitting more than one proposal, each proposal
must be sent in a separate e-mail. Use “last name2” for
the second submission, etc. |

Symposia
A symposium should include presentations oriented to a specific topic
within the field of identity, and include 3 or more presenters and a
discussant. It is the chair’s responsibility to include presenters whose
work fits into the overarching theme of the symposium, and a discussant
that will tie these presentations together. The chair will also be
responsible for holding presenters to their allotted time within the
symposium. Symposia will be scheduled for 1 hour and 50 minutes.
Include in your submission:
• A cover page with:
a. Symposium title
b. The name, institutional affiliation, mailing address and e-mail
address of the Chair.
c. The name and institutional affiliation of each presenter.
d. The name and institutional affiliation of the Discussant.
• The abstracts in the format on page 5. Include the 200 word (maximum)
integrative statement/abstract that describes the overarching theme,
with the chair and discussant listed (in the format below), along with a
100 word (maximum) abstract of each presentation (in the format below).
These should be included in one document, with the presenters listed in
the order they will speak.
• A 500-word (maximum) integrative statement describing the overall
nature of the symposium. Include the title of the symposium, but no
chair, discussant or presenter names.
• A 500-word (maximum) summary of each presentation in the symposium.
Include the title of the symposium and the title of the presentation,
but no author names.
• The symposium chair should compile all of the above information and
submit it in one mailing. The file name for the cover page and abstracts
should be chairlastname_abs.doc (or .txt). The file name for the
integrative statements and summaries of each presentation should be
chairlastname_pro.doc (or .txt).
Papers
Papers will be presented by an individual speaker (multiple authors are
of course acceptable) and should present a single study or series of
related studies on a specific topic in the field of identity. Each
speaker will have 20 minutes for his/her presentation (the 20 minutes
includes time for questions).
Include in your submission:
• A cover page with:
a. Paper title
b. The name, institutional affiliation, mailing address and e-mail
address of the first author.
c. The name and institutional affiliation of all co-authors.
• A 100-word abstract in the format on page 5.
• A 500-word (maximum) summary of the presentation including the title,
but no authors. Up to 2 figures or tables and key references may also be
included.
Interactive Sessions
Interactive sessions are designed to encourage exchange of ideas,
methods and/or experiences focused on a particular topic within the
field of identity. The purpose is to encourage contact among people who
may benefit from shared ideas. To that end, the focus should NOT be on
presentation of results from a research program (i.e., this is not
designed to be another type of symposium). While some mention of
research results and conclusions may be necessary, the primary focus
should be on getting people involved in discussion of ongoing issues,
controversies, projects, etc. For example, interactive sessions could
include roundtable discussions, conversation hours, small group works,
etc. Submissions focusing primarily on someone’s research agenda and
data analysis should be submitted as one of the other three formats.
Interactive sessions will be scheduled for either 50 minutes or 1 hour
and 20 minutes.
Include in your submission:
• A cover page with:
a. Session title
b. The name, institutional affiliation, mailing address and e-mail
address of the organizing presenter.
c. The name and institutional affiliation of all co-presenters.
d. Notation of preferred time – 50 min. or 1hr, 20min.
• A 100-word abstract in the format on page 5.
• A 500-word (maximum) summary of the session including the title, but
no presenter names.
